Company History
Path Logic was founded in 1999 as a niche renal biopsy service with a singular focus on high-quality pathology and client service. From that narrow, esoteric start we have grown into a full-service pathology laboratory and anatomic pathology services company. We have cultivated a reputation for innovative state-of-the-art pathology services, precise and accurate reports, web-based information sharing, personalized service, and rapid turnaround of patient results.
The company is currently engaged in a host of innovative and exciting ventures:
- Professional Services – traditional CLIA-certified pathology testing – this remains our primary mission
- Technical Services performed for other pathology groups, labs, or hospitals
- Outpatient Joint Ventures with other independent pathology groups
Professional services
Path Logic’s professional service testing involves primarily the microscopic interpretation of anatomic pathology (AP) samples by licensed pathologists or cytotechnologists. Our services are employed in both outpatient and inpatient (hospital-based) environments. The molecular testing is performed by licensed clinical laboratory scientists (CLS). All testing is performed by licensed personnel. The AP work is commonly divided into service lines corresponding to the involved organ system (e.g. skin) or the medical subspecialty (e.g. dermatology).
Two state-of-the-art laboratories
Path Logic currently operates two full-service anatomic pathology laboratories in California (Carmichael and Santa Ana) plus two small satellite labs (Fairfield and San Ramon). Between the Carmichael and Santa Ana labs, Path Logic offers a full range of pathology services that include routine histology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics, Gyn/non-Gyn cytopathology, and transmission electron microscopy. These labs have the capacity to serve clients throughout the western U.S.
Technical services
Path Logic currently performs the technical component of pathology lab services for several outside independent pathology groups that do not have access to those services in their own local labs. We also provide technical services for hospitals that do not have their own pathology labs. These services include mainly routine histology, immunohistochemistry, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), direct immunofluorescence (DIF), and molecular diagnostics. Path Logic is currently partnered (joint marketing) with NeoGenomics, which performs flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and esoteric molecular diagnostics for Path Logic as well as other clients.
Outpatient joint ventures
Path Logic has successfully entered into several joint ventures with local community hospital-based pathology medical groups to provide comprehensive outpatient anatomic pathology, cytology, and molecular diagnostic services to their community-based physicians.
Path Logic provides these local community-based pathologists with the practice tools they need to compete successfully against larger labs for the outpatient pathology work in their communities. These tools include technical processing (e.g. histology, immunohistochemistry), sales and marketing support, a laboratory information system, customer service support, courier/logistics, and billing. This frees the local pathologists from both marketing and many administrative functions, allowing them to focus on what they do best – provide high-quality professional interpretations, serve patients, and grow their clientele.
Information technology – the gateway to innovation
Research shows that the most successful businesses view information technology (IT) as a strategic asset to help them stand apart in their markets. They seek to leverage IT as a key driver of high performance.
Since its founding in 1999, Path Logic has proactively advanced the practice of pathology through the early adoption of innovative technologies, especially IT systems. Even our name embodies this focus on innovation and efficiency.
Path Logic offers, through its staff of IT experts, an array of flexible electronic connectivity solutions ranging from robust Web-based applications to advanced electronic data integration solutions.
