Nephropathology
Medical Renal Diseases
Transplant / Nephropathology
Our board-certified, fellowship-trained nephropathologists offer outstanding expertise in the diagnosis of medical renal biopsies. Our full-service nephropathology laboratory features the latest technology and leading-edge techniques for rapid diagnostic examinations, usually delivered within 24 hours of receiving the specimen:
- Routine light microscopy analysis
- Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) analysis
- Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) analysis
Broad expertise
In addition to the common medical renal diseases, our expertise encompasses IgG subtyping, Alports panels, A amyloidosis (SAA), Transthyretin, Apolipoprotein AI & AII, Fibrinogen alpha chain, and Lysozyme. IgG subtyping is used to diagnose membranous nephropathy, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, and lupus nephritis when appropriate, and we have an extended panel of antibodies to interpret amyloidosis subclassifications.
In the event of a rare and unusual case, our nephropathologists will review the material via an intra-departmental consultation.
Preliminary reports
For clients who request it, same day preliminary diagnosis can be phoned in with a differential diagnosis and discussion to speed patient care. Or we can post the preliminary report online for easy web-based viewing.
