Technology

Maintaining a leadership position as a 21st century healthcare organization is both a challenge and an inspiration. It requires sustained vigilance. At Path Logic, we continuously evaluate the latest technology in each of our service areas and adopt testing and IT innovations whenever they offer proven diagnostic superiority and value.  Here are three examples of innovation in action at Path Logic.

How can these technologies be applied to YOUR practice to improve diagnostic speed, accuracy, and patient care?

We invite you to call us toll-free at 866-863-1496 to sit down with Path Logic and explore the possibilities.

Digital pathology and slide scanning

Digital pathology is an example of Path Logic’s leading role in technology adoption. Although Path Logic has been incorporating high-quality digital diagnostic images in its pathology reports since 1999, we recently installed digital slide scanning systems in our two main laboratories. This scanning technology allows pathologists to quickly view and share high-resolution digital images of the entire pathology slide from anywhere there is an Internet connection.

Path Logic’s pathologists can now view special stains on complicated cases within minutes of their preparation – even when that occurs in a lab on the other end of the state. Digital pathology breaks the dependence on shipping glass slides to every pathologist’s office and opens the door to faster and more comprehensive consultations among pathologists. That translates into quicker results and better patient care.

Personalized medicine

Another diagnostic breakthrough related to digital pathology is the ability to apply highly complicated analytic tools to diagnose pathology images. This allows pathologists to go beyond the limitations of their microscopes in evaluating pathologic tissues. Path Logic currently uses this technology to quantitatively assess breast cancer biomarkers (e.g. Her2) that guides treatment decisions. This is one of the most rapidly expanding areas of diagnosis and treatment often called personalized medicine.

PathCast™ video-based pathology reporting

In order to provide more comprehensive and convenient reporting of pathology results, Path Logic has developed a new video-based pathology reporting capability called PathCast™. This unique Internet-based video reporting capability provides you with the opportunity to not only see the pathology slide results, but also to listen to the pathologist’s description and interpretation, as an video presentation, whenever you have the time. While hearing our diagnostic interpretation, you can also view the entire pathology slide if you wish because of Path Logic’s digital pathology and slide scanning technology.

Path Logic introduced its new PathCast™ capability in 2009 at two recent international pathology meetings – the Executive War College for Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and College of American Pathologists: Futurescape of Pathology. The technology was very well received and promises a whole new level of responsiveness and diagnostic efficiency for Path Logic clients and patients.
